TVB News: Sheren Tang blasts TVB

Hong Kong actress Sheren Tang has blasted Hong Kong TV station TVB for not paying its talents enough.

TVB also mistreats its talents and is notorious for overworking them, Tang said.

To date, TVB, arguably Hong Kong’s most prominent TV station has lost some of its most bankable stars including Charmaine Sheh, Bowie Lam and Sammul Chan to the thriving entertainment scene in China.

While the Hong Kong media has noted that an increasing number of home-grown talents are looking to expand their career overseas, Teng claimed it is not solely for the money.

“It is true that some of TVB’s talents have left the station for China because of the low wages. The highest payout for an episode is HK$30,000 (RM11,500).”

“But there are also other advantages of making a TV drama in China like having great outdoor shoots, having more room to express ourselves artistically and of course, having more roles to choose from,” said Teng.

She added that TVB constantly faces a shortage in budget, lacks creativity and is too commercialised.

“Shooting in Hong Kong also takes up a lot of time. When it’s over, it feels like you’ve been wrenched dry,” the actress said.

“TVB talents are often overworked.”

However, Teng said she has never rejected any scripts from TVB in favour of filming in China and hopes that things will get better once a new boss takes over.
