Regarding early buzz about the TVB Anniversary Awards, Bowie said, “Two weeks prior to the awards ceremony, we should review the clips of all the contenders. This way, the audience will have a better response.” (Did Bowie want to win another [Best Actor] award?) “In the past, I already won awards. I am not craving to win one! There is no place at home to store the awards anyway. It is better to win cash!”

Regarding Sisters of Pearl co-star, Kiki Sheung Tin Gnor, who often had negative rumors, Bowie spoke of his onscreen wife, “Kiki’s personality is too direct. Whenever she does not like something, she will speak up. However, I respect Kiki a lot, since she is my predecessor.” (Can you stand her personality?) “She needs to control herself more. If other people can not accept the criticism, then she should say less!”

Last year, when Jessica Hsuan and Kiki Sheung Tin Gnor were filming Sisters of Pearl <掌上明珠>, rumors circulated that they got into disagreements. Although both actresses have denied this, Jessica and Kiki [did not have much to say] in front of other people.

Aside from not getting along with Jessica, Kiki may also have gotten into a cold war with Sisters of Pearl co-star, Michael Tao Dai Yu. Kiki and Michael were classmates in a TVB Acting Class twenty-seven years ago. Allegedly, during the filming of Sisters of Pearl, Kiki and Michael fought over the issue of out-takes. Allegedly, Kiki may even have criticized Michael’s acting skills regressing and that he did not know how to act.

There was obvious tension between Kiki and Michael, as evidenced at a Sisters of Pearl promotional event this week. The pair had zero interaction with each other onstage. Kiki and Michael’s twenty-seven friendship may well be over!

The entertaining value of a television series is usually attributed to the villain’s role. In recent years, TVB created several memorable villainess roles, such as Tavia Yeung Yi’s character in Beyond the Realm of Conscience <宮心計> and Michelle Yim Mai Shuet in Moonlight Resonance <溏心風暴之家好月圓>.

Replacing Suspects in Love’s <搜下留情> time slot will be Sisters of Pearl <掌上明珠> For the first time in her 17-year acting career, Jessica Hsuan will be portraying a villainess. Sisters of Pearl also feature Bowie Lam, Kiki Sheung Tin Gnor, Michael Tao Dai Yu, Chan Mei Si, and Joyce Tang Lai Ming. Set in the 1960s, the story revolves around the three Chu sisters (played by Kiki, Jessica, and Mei Si) and their family pearl business. Due to the frequent bickering among the sisters over the family fortune, there will be many scenes with the female characters plotting against each other.

No Righteous Character in Sisters of Pearl

Jessica’s character will bear evil and greedy intentions, as she schemes to take over complete control of the Chu family’s pearl business. Jessica will have many scenes opposite Bowie and Michael as well.

Perhaps the most extreme villain will be Bowie, who will play Kiki’s husband. Initially, Bowie was loyal to the Chu family. However, after his father’s death due to unjust circumstances, his personality took a drastic turn and he became a sly schemer. Bowie manipulated Kiki and Jessica’s relationship, causing their sisterly ties to turn sour. He also became involved with Joyce Tang.

Michael Tao will play the Chu sisters’ cousin. His character appears to be cheerful, but he plots with outsiders to usurp the Chu family’s pearl business. Perhaps there is no righteous character in Sisters of Pearl.

A crew member on the set of Sisters of Pearl revealed that Jessica and Kiki did not get along during filming. They had sudden outbursts and disappeared during filming, making the Producer fearful of Kiki and Jessica. Allegedly, Jessica possessed diva habits and requested to nap for twenty minutes on the set [in between filming breaks]. This resulted in the other cast members waiting for her.

Allegedly, when the filming location for one of the outdoor scenes was changed last minute, Kiki was enraged and yelled at other people. Jessica and Kiki maintained their distance from each other outside of their shared scenes.

Brief summary:

After the death of her husband, CHU PIK-HA (Hsuan Jessica Hester) returns to her maiden home with her son, in a deliberate attempt to take over the family jewelry business from her big sister CHU PIK-WAN (Sheung Tin Ngor). To prevent HA from getting too out of hand, WAN needs her matrilocal husband HO CHEUNG-HING (Bowie Lam) to create trouble for her sibling. HING does not follow her instructions, but instead secretly helps HA tackle her problems one by one. WAN soon comes to realize that HING has never really got over HA. WAN's little sister CHU PIK-LAM (Macy Chan) is still attending school and too young to deal with such family issues. WAN feels a profound sense of helplessness and becomes even more frustrated when SO LAI-SHEUNG (Tang Lai Ming) turns up suddenly claiming to be a mistress of her late father and pregnant with his baby. Out of respect for their father, the sisters agree to put SHEUNG up for the time being until the situation becomes clearer. Shortly thereafter, HA discovers that SHEUNG is just a tool of her cousin HUNG YIU-SANG (Dao Tai Yu), who has been plotting to wage a battle of wills against the CHUs.

My thoughts:

Looks like a plot full of suspense and intense, very anticipating. All the casts have not being on-screen for a while, gives a refreshing look. After that, there would be lots of Linda Chung's dramas coming up. hiaz... I am happy to see Joyce acting in this series, its been a long time since King of Snooker.
