Episode 1 to 21:
Ron Ng (Chor Chi 楚慈) and his father, Sunny Chan (Chor Fan 楚帆) had been very distant towards each other. After graduating from university, Ron becomes a public relations officer in a tobacco company and was being promoted rapidly to be a successful professional. However, Sunny had a different point of view and felt that promoting smoking is similar to 'helping a villain to do evil.' After much arguements, Ron moves out from the house so that he will not have any more conflicts with Sunny.
Sunny later contracts the Alzheimer's disease, causing Ron to move back home to take care of him. Sunny's disease was worst to the extent of giving extra change and mistook Ron as though he was still a child and cane him.
Later, Ron meets a wealthy prestigious elderly businessman Lo Tsan Shun (Cheng Kwan-min 鄭坤綿) who tried to poach him over using a high pay and post. When Ron was in the lift to get to his office, the lift suddenly gone haywire and Ron came out of a wooden cupboard and accidentally knocked into young Sunny who was riding a bicycle at the 1960's era. He had travelled back in time.
Ron desperately tried to explain to Sunny that he came from the 2000's era but Sunny apparently did not believe him. Seeing that Ron had no kins, Sunny took Ron home.
They lived in a rented house with Sunny's father, John Chiang (Ko Shan-chuen 高山泉), landlady Gigi Wong (Tam Lan-ching 譚蘭青) and her daughter Shirley Yeung (Ching Lan-fun 程蘭芬). When Ron first see Shirley, he thought she was the owner of the fish shop in his era. However, Shirley did not recognise him at all and both of them often comes into clashes with each other.
Another mysterious tenant, Myolie Wu (So Fung-lei 蘇鳳妮), moved in to the house. It was later discovered by Sunny and Ron that she is actually a con artist who specialized in cheating wealthy businessmen to buy house for her holding an identity as a mistress. Sunny warned her that if she did anything illegal again, he would report her.
Seeing that he is unable to return to 2008, Ron found a job as a sales clerk in Dor Dor department store and was colleague with Sunny. Ron discovered that young Lo Tsan Shun was actually the general manager of this departmental store and clings onto him.
Ron got hold of Lo Tsan Shun bibliography about his successes in life. Ron tried to used the contents of the book to give his father's and neighbours a good life. Initially, Lo Tsan Shun refused to believe Ron until he was told about a robbery case and he managed to escape from the shot because he was tieing his shoelaces. Lo Tsan Shun finally believed what Ron had told him and wanted the bibliography. Hence, in exchange for the bibliography, Ron told him to built a property where installments is allowed so that Sunny and the rest of the folks in the house can invest in the property without paying a huge lumpsum.
Meanwhile, Myolie was found to have an affair with the wealthy chairman of Dor Dor department store and this cause the marriage of the boss and his wife (Lo Tsan Shun's cousin) to be in the rocks causing Lo Tsan Shun to take advantage of the situation by tricking his cousin to sign documents so that the assets is all transferred to him. Sunny was very disappointed with Myolie and they seems to be on very good terms before this incident happened. Sunny demanded Myolie to apologised to the wife and admit that she is a con artist in order to save their marriage. However, Myolie told the wife that she would sell the news about the affair to the reporter which will ruin their image. Thus, she received a hefty sum of money and left Hong Kong to USA. Sunny was greatly disappointed with her until Myolie's sister, Mandy Wong (So Fung-lin 蘇鳳蓮) told him that Myolie accompanied her mother to USA for medical treatment and needed that sum of money.
It was revealed that the property that Ron had told the neighbour's to invest was blown away due to weak foundation built by the construction company and it was all Lo Tsan Shun's idea. Infuriated, Ron and Sunny confronted him but it was no use and he refuse to compensate. Later, Ron and Shirley secretly went into Lo Tsan Shun's room and intended to steal the bibliography. Unfortunately, Lo Tsan Shun went into his room and both Ron and Shirley hid. Ron hid in a cupboard which was the same cupboard that teleported him to the 1960s era. When he emerged from the cupboard, he found out that he had returned back to 2008. Ron arrived a few days earlier and he sees his another self in 2008s acts of selfishness and he is regretful about what he had done.
When Ron was watching his another self, he was kidnapped by elderly Lo Tsan Shun's men. Lo Tsan Shun laughed about Ron acts of stupidity and he was waiting for the appearance of 1960s Ron. He intended to release him once the 2008s Ron teleported back to the 1960s (I don't really know why Lo wanted to do that, can someone explain?)
When Sunny was following the 2008s Ron to the lift, he had already teleported. Lo Tsan Shun emerged just as the lift door opened. At the same time, the 1960s Ron was released. Both Ron and Sunny began recounting about the past and the lives of each neighbour after Ron was teleported. Deep in the heart, Ron was most concerned about Shirley and he went to the fish shop again where he found the girl that resembled Shirley. They looked exactly the same. After much questioning, the girl confessed that she was Shirley who had travelled to 2008 through the cupboard at that time when she saw Ron disappeared through it. Ron and Shirley were thus reunited.
Another shocking news was Ron found out that he was not the biological son of Sunny. Sunny had not been married through the years and he adopted Ron when he was a child. He was still thinking and waiting for Myolie. There was a suspicious paper in the 1960s that had also travelled to 2008s in Ron's pocket that cite the evidence of Lo Tsan Shun's wrongdoings. However, the crucial statement in the paper was washed off and cannot be brought to the police.
Coincidentally, Sunny met Myolie in the cinema where both had aged since and later they arranged for a gathering in the restaurant, recounting of the past. Ron met Sunny and Myolie in the restaurant and he brought the evidence along saying it would testified against Lo Tsuan Shun. Myolie stole the evidence while no one was noticing and threaten Lo Tsuan Shun with the evidence in exchange for money. In the end, it was staged by Ron and Myolie to video record Lo Tsuan Shun's statement of his wrongdoings to further used this evidence as a support to the partial tattered paper. Sunny wanted to apologised to Myolie as he mistook her as being greedy for money but Myolie disappeared.
In conclusion, Sunny and Ron left Hong Kong to USA to search for Myolie. While taking the lift, some obstructions occured which may brought them back to the past again.
My thoughts
Seems that there may be a sequence to A chip off the old block. Generally, the show is funny and lively and it clearly reflect strong bonding between neighbours which seems to be lost in this generation. I really like the last episode in how they link the characters of 1960s to 2008 and reunited them together. If you had watched this drama, pls feel free to comment. ^_^
