My thoughts:

It's the time of the year again, congratulations to all the winners! The TV King and Queen is expected to be Ruco Chan and Nancy Wu. Happy to see Sheren Tang, Frankie Lam and Jessica Hsuan back on the TV-screen as the night's presenters. If you have not watch any of the TVB dramas yet for this year, my recommended series for the year is Over Run Over, Dead Wrong, A Fist Within Four Walls and Two Steps from Heaven. ^_^

Brief summary:

Living on the streets of Hong Kong, Kenneth Ma claims that he is the Last Emperor of China. As social worker Tracy Chu follows his case, she gradually reveals his adventurous, absurd, legendary life devoted to pursing his love Niki Chow. In the early 1930s, when he was still a youngster,

Kenneth, along with his brother Benjamin Yuen and friends Koo Ming Wah and Brian Tse, compete in a firecracker scramble to earn money for him to marry Niki. Because of an accident, they not only miss out on the prize money, they also encounter strange people and events one after another, including bandit Harriet Yeung, revolutionary Luk Wing Kuen and warlord Pal Sinn. Koo Ming Wah's sister Mandy Wong is also implicated and becomes a social flower.

Kenneth and his pals fail in the military and instead, become prisoners. They later end up in Shanghai. With the help of triad leader Joe Tay, Kenneth transforms into a powerful Shanghai tycoon. Although his heart still thinks about Niki, a missed opportunity causes the two of them to be separated again for forty years.

Brief summary:

In 2006, senior business consultant Vincent Wai (Roger Kwok) and his apprentice Max Hong (Vincent Wong) get taken hostage during a business trip to Vietnam. While Max manages to escape imprisonment, Vincent stays confined in a deserted island for a decade.

Ten years later, Vincent is found and taken back to Hong Kong, where he learns that he was legally declared dead. Struggling to understand the reasons behind his abduction, Vincent visits Vietnam again to probe into the matter, bringing along his wife Cathy Yuen (Joey Meng) and his good friend Lam Ho-yan (Kenny Wong). Local police, however, constantly obstructs their investigation, throwing the trio into dangerous situations.

Upon their return to Hong Kong, Vincent learns that Cathy had remarried during his disappearance, and that her current husband is Ho-yan. Broken-hearted, Vincent chooses to leave Cathy and their son, and plunges his own life into his work. With Max’s support, Vincent finds his place at work again, and even gets involved in an ambiguous relationship with his boss, Queenie Yip (Rebecca Zhu).

But Vincent still feels lost. Recalling his disappearance with indignation, he launches another investigation. The unexpected clues he discovers lead him on a journey of vengeance.

Brief summary:

Sheldon Chun (Bosco Wong), Sean Fung (Edwin Siu), and Tim Yau (Louis Cheung) are the “Iron Triangle” of The Rainmakers, a well-known and influential public relations company in Hong Kong. With their canny tongues and sharp wit, the three PR masters slide smoothly into the upper layers of society.

Under fate’s calling, Sean re-encounters ex-girlfriend Max Ku (Priscilla Wong) and her younger brother Ted (FAMA’s 6-Wing), who turn out to be the children of a powerful real estate mogul Ku Fuk-sang (Pat Poon). Under the leadership of Max’s older half-sister Selina (Alice Chan), the business becomes one of the top players in Hong Kong’s real estate industry. With Max pulling the ropes behind the scenes, the PR trio enter a period of prosperity, and they do whatever they can to make their way to the top.

But the higher they climb, the more they have to lose. They eventually forsake their families, loved ones, friends, and even their dignity—all because of one woman.

Brief summary:

Originally living on Planet Meow, Kristal Tin applies to return to Earth in human form, hoping to help physicist Moses Chan and Nancy Wu resolve their growing problems before it affects her young master Celine Yeung. Ten years ago, Kristal had been the family's pet cat and had established a deep relationship with them. Now she is looking for any way to remain on Earth and get close to them. Luckily, she meets Chinese chiropractor Mimi Chu, who takes her in.

By chance, she joins Moses' scientific research company. With her knowledge of advanced technology from her home planet, Kristal immediately becomes a popular figure. Her cat-like instincts enable her to have supersonic hearing and be super agile. She discovers that senior executives Eddie Kwan and Vivien Yeo are plotting against Moses. She is eager to protect her master but unknowingly falls in love with him. It triggers the nerves that only women have in Nancy. At this time, her fellow inhabitants from Planet Meow suddenly appear and Kristal's secret is about to be exposed...

Co-starring is Myolie Wu as Kong's partner Cheung Kei-sang, and Edwin Siu as triad leader, Chau Sai-kai. No Reserve is slated for a October 2016 release on TVB's streaming service, myTV SUPER.

Brief summary:

As the founder of the leading Chinese-backed law firm in Hong Kong, Lau Dan has served as the committee chair for many terms. Although he has promised managing partner Liu Kai-chi that he will step down, he invited the profit-oriented Alex Fong to join the firm to counterbalance the power-hungry Liu Kai-chi. Liu Kai-chi has cemented his power at the firm throughout the years. He expects his top associates, Raymond Cho and Mandy Wong, to easily handle Florence Kwok and Matthew Ho from Alex's camp, until a car accident throws off his calculations. Meanwhile, Alex takes advantage and receives an astronomical deal from Lau Dan, officially being promoted to senior partner. Alex also re-encounters Ali Lee, who is also a lawyer. Ali has a special status within the firm. From her initial disdain towards Alex to admiration of him, the two of them establish a mentor and friend relationship. This forces Liu Kai-chi, a ticking time bomb, to show his hand to Lau Dan. As each camp struggles for power, a toothless tiger who has been hibernating for many years prepares to get revenge...

All voting participants (Online, Newspaper & Magazine) also stand a chance to win A 3D2N trip for 2 to catch the TVB Awards Presentation in Hong Kong and a pair of StarHub TVB Awards tickets for top winner.

The nominations for StarHub TVB Awards 2016 are jointly determined by StarHub and TVB for TVB programmes shown on VV Drama, E City, TVBJ and TVB First on Demand between 1 September 2015 – 30 September 2016. The final results are decided by online voting (70%) and a panel of professional judges (30%) which will be announced at the awards show.

This year Ruco Chan has high chance of winning My Favourite TVB actor 3 times in a row. Lack of competitors is one reason, TVB has few potential male actors to meet the standard. Next year will be their 50th anniversary, hopefully we can look forward to a more competitive environment. Nancy Wu did not get the My Favourite TVB actress last year, she will get it this year. Happy for Joyce Tang to get the My Favourite TVB supporting actress and Raymond Cho or Lai Lok Yi t to get the My Favourite TVB supporting actor role. Do share your thoughts with us! (^_^)
