Esther Kwan Teases Bobby Au-Yeung's Belly Bigger than her Husband

Golden on-screen couple Bobby Au-Yeung and Esther Kwan have reunited for TVB new series Reverse Three Lifetimes of Fate. Yesterday on Christmas Eve, the two were shooting in Yuen Long and fortunately they were able to get off work early and countdown for Christmas with their families. Bobby said although he hadn't collaborated with Esther for a long time, the sparks are still strong. He joked Esther is much more refined compared to the past. Bobby also exposed Nick Cheung ordered him to take good care of Esther, he laughed: "Mr. Cheung told me to please his wife as much as I could. When he found out we have to film overnight, he would sneak to the set and since he's been physically training, he brought some of his muscles with him too. His arms are doubled the size of mines." Esther heard Bobby's comment and laughed: "But his belly isn't as big as yours!"

Esther said she's just having dinner with her family over the Christmas holiday. She said her husband injured his arm from filming and feels heartbroken that he's always getting hurt, so she's currently looking for a doctor to treat him. However, she won't force him to reduce the amount of action scenes he does, she just hopes he takes better care of his body. Esther said: "Actually he's very careful, but sometimes its necessary for the film and accidents happen!" Its been a while since Esther's been in a series, she felt excited coming back to acting again, but for now she's only going to do one. She will have to see how the audience react before she decides whether she should continue filming series.

Raymond Lam & Kate Tsui Loaded with Jobs Despite Losing Awards

Raymond Lam and Kate Tsui were the hot favorites for TV King and Queen at the TVB Anniversary Awards 2012, but unfortunately lost to Wayne Lai and Tavia Yeung. Today on Christmas, each are busy with their own jobs. Kate just finished shooting the Lunar New Year film (I Love HK 2013) and will be busy from beginning to end of the coming year. A rare opportunity that she gets a day off, Kate tries to have the best of fun with her family and friends as they gather for a Christmas party. Tomorrow, she'll be going back to work in Beijing and will celebrate a White Christmas there while she's at it. Kate smiled and said its a memorable Christmas. She reveals that her relatives has been trained since youth to become a "Big 2 Master", so she can.

Although Kate lost the TV Queen award, she is still loaded with jobs and will have a prosperous year. When asked what Christmas gift she's getting herself as a reward? Kate said: "I've always wished to live with my family, in fact, what I want most is to buy a bigger house, so we can all live together. I am currently saving up for the down payment." Kate didn't get the TV Queen title, but compared to Tavia, she won the audience hearts, asked if she feels that's more important than the award? She said: "The speech I made on stage is from the bottom of my heart. I feel so warm knowing so many colleagues like me. I've gained a lot." Raymond and Kate's relationship is like 'aiya' siblings, does Kate feel its a pity that he didn't get the TV King award? She said: "Of course I feel disappointed, Ah Fung (Raymond) is a three-habitat artist, he handles all three areas of TV, film and music really well."

As for Raymond, he is shooting for a Mainland drama during the Christmas holidays, and will not be able to celebrate with his family. Raymond is also holding a concert in January, so aside from shooting series, he has to record songs and rehearse for the concert.

Brief summary:
A Search & Rescue agency specializes in finding loved ones lost during a war, natural disaster or relocation. The paranoid and skeptical HONG YU FUNG (Linda Chung), the optimistic and energetic SI YIK HIM (Jason Chan), the eloquent SIN KIT JING (Cilla Lok) and computer expert YEUNG CHI KEI (Calvin Chan) are led by a calm and rational team leader LO MAN TIK (Ram Chiang) to start their experience of searching and rescuing people. Not only do they find happiness in their work, but they also go through a whole new experience of how they see themselves...

FUNG, the new member in the group, worked well with HIM and often hits the nail, but they also understand that they must comply with the regulations of the job. They must not give false hopes to the seeker and bring unnecessary pain to them. Gradually FUNG and HIM developed feelings for one another, but unfortunately HIM already had a girlfriend TING PUNG CHI (Lin Xiawei), who just hoped her own happiness could bring even greater happiness to others...

My thoughts:
Except Linda, there's a lot of unfamiliar faces. In this series, Linda and Jason played social workers devoted to lend a helping hand to others. Should be a meaningful series to watch. What do you think? Feel free to comment. ^_^

Oh my! It has been sooo long since the nomination list is out. Pardon me for the late post. ><

TVB Best Actor Award

My thoughts:
This is going to be Raymond Lam year at last. Feel so happy for him! =D I actually haven't watch any of the series up till Witness Insecurity so can't feedback much here. Heard that Raymond receives good response in his acting in Highs and Lows. Definitely going to catch this drama! This year TVB actor and Actress will be selected based on one person per vote basis. With huge fan base, it is obvious who will be the winner. Something I don't quite get it is how come Raymond is not in the Top 10 of the HK Magazine vote? This seriously puzzle me. Anyone who has the answer, feel free to post. Thank you!

TVB Best Actress Award

My thoughts:
This is going to be competitive for the female category. I seriously wish aimee is not one of the Top 5. After all, she made it through last year in her role in FH3 for favourite female character which I thought was totally unjustifiable then if you refer to my previous post. Anyway, will support Kate all the way, it's a breakthrough role for her in Highs and Lows. Either she make it or break it. In the end, she make it, will be looking forward to her standing on stage and voice out her thoughts and feelings when receiving the award. Wonder what will she says?

TVB Best Supporting Actor Award

My thoughts:
I like Him Law character in The Hippocratic Crush! Hope he gets the award! Oscar on the other hand showed tremendous improvement and this year and it is a good year for him with popularity shooting up due to performance in Tiger cubs and L'Escargot.

TVB Best Supporting Actress Award

My thoughts:
I support Mandy in this category. Oh ya, heard that Nancy Wu is going to win the Asian Award held in Singapore during mid December for her role in Gloves come off so early congratulations to her. :))

TVB Best Male Character Award

My thoughts:
Would like Kenneth Ma to win the award. haha. Law Ba seems to lose it's coolness all of a sudden. Sometimes, it is just a short-term fame and the audience impression of you slowly fade which is quite upsetting.

TVB Best Female Character Award

My thoughts:
Okay, Tavia landed up in 2 nominations but there's still space for Linda in Witness Insecurity, L'Escargot, House of Harmony and Vengeance but she didn't end up anywhere. Some weird people should be kicked out. On a side note, Charmaine's hairstyle and makeup looks terrible, did she really look like this in When Heaven Burns???

TVB Best Male Improvement Award

My thoughts:
Gonna be Him Law again although I don't mind either Edwin Siu or Oscar Leung to get it. =)

TVB Best Female Improvement Award

My thoughts:
Seriously, this award should long have given Mandy Wong. She is great in her acting. And she should have gotten it last year instead of Sire Ma...

TVB Best Series Award

My thoughts:
I didn't watch the second half of the show so can't comment but I think the best series should be those on 2nd half of the year maybe Highs and Lows? Till now, is Witness Insecurity still in first placing or The Confidant?

Feel free to voice out your comments. Your comments is greatly appreciated to make this TVB 45th Anniversary Discussion lively although I posted this late....Thank you! ^_^

Nancy Wu Enjoys Being Supporting, Lead Actress Take it Slowly

In the past few years, Nancy Wu collaborated with Wayne Lai on three separate occasions including Rosy Business, Forensic Heroes III and most recently The Confidant. In The Confidant, Nancy's role is quite heavy as she appears from beginning to end, and she develops an ambiguous palace maid-eunuch relationship with Wayne. Nancy and Wayne have paired up several times and the chemistry just gets better each time. In addition, Nancy's acting has been getting positive feedback, Nancy said, "Wayne is a great actor. I've learned a lot after working with him so many times. At first, I felt really pressured, but now it's gotten better and my expectations has gone up as well. This time, I had a very comfortable collaboration with him because the story is about an ambiguous relationship between the two of us, so there isn't many hugs and kisses involved. Most of our scenes comes from the heart and emotions. We really like the story too."

Netizens called the Nancy and Wayne pairing "Lin Yung" (lotus) because Nancy's character is "Sin Yung" and Wayne is "Lin Ying". Not just that, the two also has a duet, The Confidant's sub theme, Sun and Moon. In fact, Nancy participated in the New Talent Singing Contest before, and her singing skills are up to standards. She only got 'half a song' this time, but still satisfied her cravings. She said: "It is such a rare opportunity that I get to sing. Friends and fans who know me, knows that I love singing. I've waited for this day for a long time. I'm already very happy to be able to sing half a song for the anniversary."

This year, Nancy won "Best Supporting Actress" at Astro On Demand's Awards 2012 in Malaysia and at the 17th Asian Television Awards 2012 on 6th Dec) based on her mute/deaf role "Ting Yan Chi" in Gloves Come Off. The TVB Anniversary Awards is just around the corner, and Nancy can start promoting for her role in The Confidant. When asked if she's desperate to win awards? She frankly said: "Actually, yes. I've always been a supporting actress and I quite enjoy being in supporting roles. Of course, I do hope to become a lead actress some day, but take it one step at a time. I have confidence and TVB has confidence on me." However, this year the 'Supporting Actress' nominees are strong. She said: "This year there is a lot of competition, such as Mandy Wong, Aimee Chan and Elena Kong are all very outstanding."

TVB Celebrates 45th Anniversary: Voices a Message to Gov't on Stance 'Free-to'Air License' Issue

TVB celebrated their 45th anniversary (Nov. 19th) last night at the annual TVB Anniversary Gala show. TVB actively competed with Ricky Wong's unlicensed CTI and came out as the 'King of HK Television'. Yesterday TVB got a full page of advertisements on several newspapers and magazines, showing off their many years of contributions to the HK television industry and they plan to invest $10 billion in the future on their business. Last night, Dodo Cheng led the group of artists to say the 34 character statement: "What we need is a stable operation and service environment for a free-to-air TV station to survive in this industry and for continual development." The message was to let the government know their position on free-to-air television licenses.

Yesterday TVB published an advertisement that took up the whole page on several newspapers and magazines stating that in the past 45 years, TVB have contributed in spreading Hong Kong culture to the society and Chinese populations all over the world. Besides the 34 character statement to the government, TVB also announced last night that they have established a "TVB Artistes Charitable Fund" to help third world countries, including those who have sudden financial difficulties, those in poverty and care for the elder. Currently the fund has already raised HK$30 million and the movement will begin next year.

105 year old former chairman Sir Run Run did not attend the anniversary, but Eric Tsang expressed he's at home watching the show. Executive chairman Norman Leung responded to the free-to-air TV license issue: "TVB just wants to know from the government, anyone who applies for a TV free-to-air license can get one? How many licenses will be issued then? It is most significant that TVB has a stable environment to develop further. I am the executive chairman, I want to know how many more free-to-air licenses will be issued in the future? I have to have answers for our shareholders and a business plan for the future. When our license expires in 2015, we will renew it."

The anniversary performances didn't have many surprises. Kate Tsui, Rebecca Zhu, Mandy Wong, Christine Kuo and other beautiful girls performed "Goddesses Falls for the Net", where they did a dance on the net. The girls were dressed rather conservatively and there wasn't much to look at. After Kate finished her performance, she started crying and said: "I'm so touched, I finally completed this performance. The rehearsal was truly difficult and I got many injuries."

Most of the attention was on the 'heavy after taste' parody skits for anniversary series Silver Spoon Sterling Shackles (SSSS) and The Confidant. The male artists including Moses Chan, Wayne Lai, Roger Kwok and Michael Tse did the male version of SSSS and disguised themselves as the four wives. Nat Chan played Damian Lau's character. The four "wives" acted very girly and surrounded Nat trying to kiss him. Kristal Tin pretended to be an eunuch from The Confidant, she took out a knife and pretended as if she was going to "castrate" Nancy Sit and then she suddenly took out a banana and started cutting it madly. Law Lan, Ching Ho Wai and Mary Hon were dressed as wild cat girls, shocking the audience.

When it was time for the games, Moses had to sit on his girlfriend Aimee Chan's lap, which frightened him so much he almost fell over, but Aimee hugged her lover tightly on her lap. Ruco Chan was asked to sit on sexy JJ Jia's lap. However, he only sat on the side, but still he almost crushed JJ. Aimee pretended to be Mrs. Chan and pushed the 'baby' Moses off. Then Moses miserably got milk powder and ground coffee splattered all over him and Aimee tried to defend her boyfriend and blocked it. The lucky money gift winners of the night were Wayne Lai, who won a $1 million prize and Raymond Lam won HK$50,000 red envelope.

Linda Chung Chooses a "Boyfriend" on the Spot at Autograph Session
Yesterday Linda Chung appeared in a short skirt at the shopping mall for her new album Love Love Love's autograph session. There were about 200 fans at the scene. It was rumored Linda is heavily favored by her record company Star Shine's boss Herman Ho. Yesterday Herman supported her at the event too and generously took pictures together. On stage, Linda thanked her boss for giving her the opportunity to release this album. She is grateful that he understands her vocals.

This is Linda's 4th album and she frankly said this is her favorite one because the songs relate closest to life. She hopes fans will understand her inner thoughts after listening to her new songs. At the event, Linda played games with the fans. Three male fans took turns using their own tactics to confess their love for Linda, and Linda had to choose who she liked the most. She said: "I like the guy who was shy, but still had some courage. The other two were very sweet too." Then Linda fed a female fan, but accidentally got some sauce on her shirt, she quickly helped the fan wipe it off with a tissue. Fans gave Linda DIY cards and wristbands. She said she was very touched, but she didn't want fans to see her tear up, so she tried hard to hold them in.

When asked if rumored boyfriend Philip Ng supported her new album? She said he did and so did her colleagues, fans and her parents in Canada.

Bobby Au Yeung & Esther Kwan's New Series Costume Fitting

It's been over 10 years since Bobby Au-Yeung and Esther Kwan collaborated. Their last collaboration was Armed Reaction. Yesterday the two appeared at the costume fitting for TVB new series Reverse Three Lifetimes of Fate along with the other cast including Ben Wong, Mandy Wong, Christine Kuo, Pierre Ngo, Rebecca Zhu and Benjamin Yuen. The story is about time traveling through three different time periods.

Esther reveals she will have scenes where she goes into the water during the winter and does CPR. She laughed and said she'll have to get a stunts double to help her do those scenes, "I hope we'll finish filming the scenes in HK before new years because after new years we'll be heading to Foshan for more shooting. I'll have a long 10 days off during Lunar New Year." When asked if she had to get approval from her husband Nick Cheung first? She said: "He's busier than me. Our daughter is already 7 years old and our domestic worker just left, she will have to learn to be more independent. Let her survive on her own."

When speaking of ATV protesting against the government issuing more free-to-air TV licenses, Bobby said: "Are they in charge? They're holding onto a free-to-air license and then tells the government not to give the licensees to others? Then what will those who are currently shooting CTI series do? Let others have somewhere to go! People should be fair." When asked if TVB has a similar demonstration, will he support them? Bobby expressed as long as it's justice, he will support. Esther felt helpless on her 'maternal home' (ATV) behaviors.

Christine Kuo expressed she plays a barbaric princess in this series and will have many scenes opposite of Benjamin Yuen. However, when she introduced his character's name, she mistakenly said "cut banana" (jin chiu) instead of "Chin Chiu". It was a hilarious moment, Christine explained she just accidentally blurted our her lines from the series.

Raymond Lam Saw Online Feedback Won't Miss Out on TV King

Yesterday Raymond Lam attended the press conference held in Shenzhen for the Ernest Borel - Royal Collection new products. There were over a thousand fans that went to support Raymond, jamming both sides of the location. When Raymond appeared, the fans were out of control screaming loudly. Raymond was surrounded by the security, but fans tried hard reaching out to get close interaction with their idol. Raymond enthusiastically stopped and shook hands with fans.

As Ernest Borel's spokesman, Raymond frankly expressed he has never worn matching watches with a girlfriend because he never gave couple watches to her. Actually he has given one to his mother and younger sister. When speaking of the Highs and Lows finale last night, he laughed: "Actually I will be attending the finale event tonight (last night), but I lied to San Gor (Michael Miu) that I wouldn't make it, even the producer won't know that I'm going. (Do you have confidence on the ratings?) Actually I already know just reading the feedback online. I really thank you all for the support, many people are calling me by my character name now."

As the series is so popular, Raymond frankly expressed he has confidence to to become this year's TV King. "I've been nominated for many years, since I was 20 something, I was already nominated. (This year Damian Lau is your greatest competitor?) There are many strong competitors every year, I really hope I'm part of it. Currently, I'm only doing one series per year, so I really hope Happy Sir can get it. This was a very serious production. (Get TV King and Queen with Kate?) I hope so. When Kate first heard of the story, she was thinking how will people react to her Drug Queen role? How would the outcome be? I told her, I can't think of anyone else that could be more suitable for this role than you." When speaking of the year-end music awards, Raymond said: "Is it public voting? I have confidence too, public voting will be more interactive for the audience and fans. They'll be even more into it."

Yeah, I'll bring some cash with me to go shopping." She expressed she has also been watching good friend Damian Lau's new series Silver Spoon Sterling Shackles, she said: "He and I are good buddies, I must support him." Power Chan  and Mimi Lo welcomes their 7.3 lb "Long Leg" Baby Girl Jan Chan

TVB artists Mimi Lo and Power Chan's 7.3 pound baby girl, Jan Chan, was born yesterday at the Hong Kong Baptist Hospital. The nurse praised Jan's big eyes and pair of beautiful long legs! When asked whether Mimi was emotional or cried? Power said: "She was rubbing her eyes and even said other babies crying sounds annoying, but when her baby cries, she thinks she sounds cute. I went in to cut the umbilical cord too. What I was most nervous was, I was afraid the scissors might hurt the baby! (Go for another baby?) I think we'll have another one in the next one or two years, so our daughter could have someone to play and grow up with her, but leave it all to fate."

When asked who the baby resembles more of, the mother or father? Power laughed and said 80% of the people think Jan looks more like her mother. Their daughter is named after Bruce Lee's character "Chan Jan" in the film Fist of Fury, which is also Mimi's favorite film. As a father for the fist time, Power reveals Mimi was crying when she told her mother-in-law over the phone and expressed they aren't young anymore, but are already matured when they welcomed the new life into this world.

As for Mimi's comeback? Power said his wife will be reducing working on-screen, but will have a performance in Mainland in December. He hopes the family of three can work together in the future, so her daughter can see more of the outside world and expand her horizon. When asked if Mimi is the type to get a tattoo? He said: "Tattoos hurt the nutrition. She'll be breastfeeding as well and also she's a singer, she can still sing even without tattoos. She won't mind." Also, Mimi posted a photo her with her newborn and husband Power on the hospital bed. She wrote: "Mission accomplished!"

Brief summary:
During the 1930s in Hong Kong, where east meets west, feminist activists started campaigning for women’s rights, seeking to uproot the phenomenon of men’s superiority over women. Though having studied abroad in England and leading a western lifestyle, CHUNG CHEUK-MAN (Damian Lau) , a well-known Chinese barrister, is very traditional indeed. As a man possessing privileges and eminence, he has five wives, including his first wife KOO SUM-LAN (Mary Hon) coming from a noble family, second wife YEE YIN (Idy Chan), who is an ex-princess of the fallen Qing dynasty, third wife YIK YEE-FONG (Elena Kong), a daughter of a banker. Being a famous Peking opera artiste, HONG CHI-KWAN (Tavia Yeung) became his fourth wife. And as his fifth wife, CHIU TAN-TAN (Jia Xiaochen) covets vanity a lot. Despite being CHEUK-MAN’s favorite among the five wives, CHI-KWAN and him do not agree with each other on elevating the social status of women. Moreover, his two sons – CHUNG KAI-SUN (Kenneth Ma) and CHUNG KAI-YIP (Vincent Wong) turn their back on their strict father respectively, while his daughter CHUNG HO-YEE (Sire Ma) marries to a poor policeman regardless of the consequences. As the intensification of the family struggles becomes more ferocious, KAM MUK-SHUI (Ron Ng) penetrates into the CHUNG family. Unwilling to compromise on the marriage of his beloved KWAI SIU-YAU (Rebecca Zhu) and the son of the CHUNG family, he seeks vengeance on them. This seemingly splendid family is in fact beginning to crack from the inside.

My thoughts:
Finally here! The series seems to overwhelm with many plots inside judging from the 40 episodes. Haven't seen Ron series for a while, wonder how his character results in unhappiness in the Chung family? Damian is so blessed to have 5 wives. haha. Anyone looking forward to watch this series, please leave a comment. Thank you! ^ ^

Damien Lau supports Kenneth Ma & Tavia Yeung to get the AwardsThe TVB Anniversary Awards battle is getting more and more heated. This year the audience gets to vote for the TV King and Queen, the head of TVB's Variety Shows department (Yu Wing Shan) reveals the details for the public voting will conclude within the next two weeks. Currently, there are no problems with the technology. She explained they must resolve the technical problems to prevent online hackers from coming in again. She also revealed not all the awards will be up for public voting. Audience may get a few days to cast their votes, instead of opening up the polls that evening. The details regarding this matter is still in discussion.

This year's hot favorite for TV Queen, Tavia Yeung, was rumored that she's using 'cheap' tactics to crackdown her competitor Kate Tsui. She asked her boyfriend Him Law to sign a TVB contract in exchange for the award. Yesterday the cast of anniversary series Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles including Tavia, Damien Lau, Kenneth Ma, Ron Ng, Rebecca Zhu, Sire Ma, JJ Jia and Elena Kong attended the promotional event. Damien is also seen as a favorite for the TV King award, he laughed: "I've been a favorite for many years! But leave it for the younger generation. At this age, awards aren't as important to me. I support Kenneth Ma and Tavia this year. (Michelle Yim is a hot favorite too.) She's not in my series, I don't care about her."

Yesterday at the promotion, Damien's five 'wives' gave him a kiss and the event organizers prepared a cake to celebrate his 63rd birthday. After the ladies gave Damien kisses, there were lipstick marks left on his cheeks.

Recently a magazine reported Tavia wanted to defeat her strongest TV Queen competitor, Kate Tsui, so rumored boyfriend Him Law signed a 'lifelong' contract with TVB in exchange for the award. In regards to this, Tavia said: "I think that is really funny. I've been in the industry for so long, I signed a 'lifelong' contract long ago, then how come TVB hasn't given me the award? The report is purely fabricated, the media said I used 'cheap tactics to kill Kate', but I'm good buddies with Kate, and I don't want fabricated news to affect our relationship." When asked if she thinks Kate is her greatest competitor? Tavia said she's not anxious for the award. Did she talk to Him about a 'lifelong' contract with TVB? "Nothing to talk about, I didn't ask if its true or not. I don't care about that, just as long as TVB helps us earn more money. (Do you support Him signing a TVB contact?) I 'sold' myself already, but everyone has the right to choose, just as long as he's happy."

Francis Ng Says Fala Chen is too Rational in Her Acting

Yesterday Myolie Wu, Fala Chen and Francis Ng were shooting at the airport for TVB new series Triumph in the Skies II. The scene was about Myolie encouraging Francis to pursue Fala. Myolie expressed in the sequel, she turns into Francis' sister-in-law, but they are still considered good friends. She is also very excited to be shooting in England and France later, and due to this, she will not be able to attend the TVB Anniversary Gala, but may be able to rush back and attend the anniversary awards ceremony at the end of the year. She said: "I already chose my outfit, it's a little sexy and hot looking." As for the TV Queen battle this year, she expressed she doesn't have too much confidence and will be supporting in the audience. She supports Tavia Yeung to get the award this year. When she support Bosco Wong for TV King? Myolie was unwilling to mention Bosco and expressed she supports Kenneth Ma. She also joked if its going to be public voting this year, she hopes she won't have the fewest votes.

Fala had a hand-holding scene with Francis, when asked if the scene gets even more intense? Fala said Francis plays a very serious and strict guy, but behind the cameras, he's actually very funny. He's like two different people. Fala expressed Francis is very willing to teach her and acting and filming with him feels like she's in class. In the series, she also sees him as a mentor. As Fala will also be shooting in England and France, she won't be able to attend the TVB Anniversary either, but she can avoid all the 'TV Queen' gossips. It was said, this year is a battle between Tavia and Kate, Fala expressed she collaborated with Tavia a little more, but Kate is very hard working as well. We will just have to wait until the awards ceremony to find out who wins. "I'll be happy if Chung Mo Yim (Queens of Diamonds and Hearts) is part of the nominations."

Fala called Francis her mentor, he laughed: "Anyone who gets tormented by me says that." When asked what he thought of Fala's performance? He said Fala is a very hard working person, but is too rational: "When she was studying at university, she was very rational. She goes seeking for the results one step at a time, but acting is not about the results, it is about finding the cause."

Also, the day before Fala and Chilam Cheung were shooting a dating scene in Central. Chilam was seen with his head on Fala's shoulder. After they completed the scene, Chilam got into his HK$3 million sports car and left, while Fala left with the crew.

Brief summary:
As a Senior Inspector of the Narcotics Bureau Operation Unit, HEUNG WING (Miu Kiu Wai) profoundly abhors evil. He and WAI SAI-LOK (Raymond Lam) - Senior Inspector of the Intelligence Unit have closely co-operated with each other as peer mentors, frequently solving drug trafficking cases for the Police Force. During an operation to knock down the targets, SAI-LOK discovers clues that HEUNG WING is most likely the corrupt cop in a collusion conspiracy with drug dealers. Apart from launching a secret investigation into HEUNG WING, SAI-LOK is also alienated from him by the evil-willed Chief Inspector of the Operation Unit - PUN HOK-LAI (Ben Wong). Having undergone various disputes against each other, the long-term brotherly relationship between SAI-LOK and HEUNG WING appears full of contradictions. On the other hand, following an investigation, SAI-LOK falls in love with a snitch – CHAN KA-PIK (Kate Tsui), who suffers from low self-esteem due to her humble beginning. Deliberately denying her affection to SAI-LOK, KA-PIK gives up on him so that his secret admirer - KO HEI-SUEN (Ella Koon), a rookie police officer, can have the chance hence leading to a subtle relationship among the three. Feeling life is so dreary, KA-PIK ultimately digs her own grave by becoming a new generation of drug dealer, involved in drug trafficking and provoking the Police Force. With intense sorrow, SAI-LOK then joins forces with HEUNG WING against KA-PIK, waging a chain of bitter battles.

My thoughts:
Should have updated this long time ago. Sorry for the delay. The plot seems to signify that there are many corrupt police except Raymond which is rather illogical. Yay, look forward to seeing Ella act again! Strong cast and heard the ratings has been good. Then again, I have always enjoyed police series by TVB most of the time. How about you? Do post your comment about this series. ^_^

Mandy Wong: Him Law is 'Boyfriend', Oscar Leung is 'Husband', To 'Breakup' Soon

Him Law has become the new generation Siu Sang, this year he had series broadcasting one after the other, L'Escargot, The Hippocratic Crush, Tiger Cubs and the latest Divas In Distress. He is also currently shooting grand production Triumph in the Skies II. In real life, Him and Tavia Yeung are together, but in series Him has a lot of fate with Mandy Wong. Divas In Distress is Him and Mandy's 5th collaboration. It looks like TVB has really made them into an on-screen couple and are not worried of boring the audience. As for Mandy, her on-screen partner isn't Him, but rather with Oscar Leung instead.

Mandy said: "Perhaps being with Oscar in L'Escargot as Kwan Yee Gor and Kwan Yee So has left a deep impression on audience, and the public sees us as a married couple. However, there is a different feeling with Him Law. Previously in Suspects In Love and Tiger Cubs, we were not passionately in love, it was ambiguous and really had the taste of a pair of lovers. This time in Divas In Distress, it's already our 5th collaboration. Honestly, I was afraid audience would get bored of watching us, but luckily the reactions was really good. I have to thank all the aspects, such as the background English songs, the outcome was really good."

Boyfriend and Husband

Mandy joked Him is her 'boyfriend', while Oscar is her 'husband'. In order to have a refreshing feeling, it is likely they will really have to 'breakup' and 'divorce'. Mandy said: "Actually I debuted around the same time as them and producers often cast us together. In The Hippocratic Crush, I was initially linked with Kenneth Ma, but later developed with Benjamin Yuen, which was also well-received. If I have the opportunity to work with Wayne Lai or Roger Kwok, of course I'll be happy."

Not My Cup of Tea

Asked if she'll develop feelings for Him Law since they always see each other? Mandy said: "Him's not my cup of tea. It's great being friends with him though. We have collaborated many times and have the chemistry. I usually say we're good sisters, but Him says we're good brothers. He takes good care of his partner, but I like the matured types. There is too much sunshine in Him, he gives off a feeling of first love. He's also a little clumsy too, I want someone with the sense of security, a matured guy that can take care of me."

Grateful for Liza Wang's Advices

Him was asked if he had any pressure collaborating with Liza Wang and Gigi Wong in Divas In Distress? He said: "Very happy to collaborate with the two seniors and learn from them. I didn't have to worry about making mistakes. Ah Jeh Liza gave me a lot of advice because we had many scenes together. Ah Jeh's speaks with authority, since she's experienced, her advice is definitely helpful. I personally like to work with seniors, otherwise there won't be as many learning opportunities. Also, they're our support in the series, so I can feel more comfortable."

It was rumored Liza is nicknamed 'Producer Wang', has Him been frightened by her? "No, actually we had a very enjoyable collaboration. Most important is to do your part, be familiar with the script and don't be late. That is a must. When Liza sees you that don't have the right expression, she will speak up. When I become a senior in the future, I will be the same as her. Juniors have to understand what their seniors tell them. When seniors are willing to tell you, that means they value you. As a junior, you have to let people know you can accept opinions and advice." Liza plays Him's mother in the series, but what type of mother is Law Mama in real life? "My mom is very gentle with me and I was very attached to her when I was young. Actually my father and uncle were the strict ones, they discipline with some force. Traditional men from the village are usually like that. In the future when I have children, I will use the same method to teach them. Girls will require some patience to discipline and can't use force because that could leave scars. As for boys, they grow up through tripping and falling. When they make a mistake, they should be punished."

Goal: Most Improved Actor Award

When it comes to achievements in his career, does this mean becoming TV King? Him said: "I'm not considered very experienced. Who doesn't want a rapid rise, but you cannot rush it either. You have to take it slowly. Of course awards are important, but you cannot demand for one. When you shoot a series, it is not guaranteed that you'll get really popular, it's all about the right timing. My current goal is to get the 'Most Improved Actor Award', allowing people to see I'm a promising actor. I'll be happy enough with that award."

We remember Him was a film actor turned TV actor, does he hope to get back into films? He said: "I like both TV and film, they are both opportunities and I want to do well in it. I hope to complete my apprenticeship first before I get back into films and be able to show my improvements on the big screen."

[The rest is about Tavia Yeung. Him says his career is his utmost priority. Even after marriage, his career continues to be his priority. Regarding the news that he needs Tavia to support him, Him says artists must accept all types of news, good or bad, otherwise showbiz isn't for them. He says he's a traditional man, and is financially stabled. He hopes to buy his own home at the end of the year. He also doesn't mind working with Tavia in the future, since she is experienced and someone he can learn from.]

Kenneth Ma on His Three Relationships, Family & Career

Since TVB's number one 'seun poon' (best deal) Moses Chan was taken by Aimee Chan, the good boy Kenneth Ma becomes the new generation seun poon. In a five day interview, Kenneth speaks truthfully about his love life, his family and his journey in showbiz.

As Long As She's Happy

"Although I'm already 38 years old, I've only been in three relationships before. My first love was when I was still studying in Canada. The other two relationships happened after I entered the industry. The third relationship was with Nancy Wu. (Then who is the second relationship with?) I cannot disclose who she is! The second relationship, it was my first time dating after entering the industry. I don't want to say how we met, it was just from work. She is a very good girl. At the time, I really didn't know how to handle the relationship, but there were no rumors. I feared if our relationship surfaced, it would affect her. I can only say that there were some problems we couldn't resolve, so we decided to split up. There was no third party involved nor did it have anything to do with who had more fame.

(Were you two frightened because the paparazzi took pictures, so you broke up with her?) I have never said I've dated. If we get photographed then so be it. Maybe she's an actress who never had rumors with me! Haha! Don't force me to say who she is, this is a secret I cannot say.

If this relationship happened now, I think I would know how to handle it better or perhaps our relationship could be rewritten. But, she's already in a new relationship. I don't want to say if there is a chance for us to reconcile. (Isn't that a pity?) As long as I see she's happy and doing well. I have no regrets. After all, we had our happy moments together."

Dumped First Love Due to Fear of Mother Being Lonely

"My first girlfriend was when I was living in Canada. She later went to Toronto to continue her studies. Although I thought of going with her, but my two elder sisters were already studying elsewhere, my father remained in HK for work and if I left too, my mom would be lonely at home by herself. I was afraid she'll be lonely, which is very pitiful. So, I finally decided to stay in Vancouver and kept a long distance relationship with girlfriend. If I wanted to see her, I'll have to spend money on an air ticket and the telephone bill was really expensive. So, we were only able to maintain our relationship for a year and slowly it just ended."

[Kenneth goes on talking about his past rumors with Margie Tsang. He said they are very close friends, they can chat nonstop and have a lot in common. He also really admires her as a friend. Then he talks about his relationship with Nancy Wu. He only announced their relationship because there was such negative reports about her, such as she's a flirt and has a princess attitude. As a man, Kenneth believed he should come forward and give her justice. They met while shooting TITS, and only got closer after Strictly Come Dancing. Then she became his neighbor and they would go to and get off work together. Slowly the feelings built up and they got together. He said Nancy isn't a girl that controls her boyfriend, but sometimes she'll provide some encouragement or try to convince him to change the way he dresses. However, he didn't care about what she said. Kenneth said he and Nancy are better off as friends, they have less arguments and he has never thought of reconciling with her.]

I'm Different From Raymond Lam

"I rarely hang out with Raymond Lam, Bosco Wong or Ron Ng. We usually just meet at TVB. Back then when we were shooting series together, we all just liked the playful handsome guys, basically nobody cared about the acting. I have never thought we were competitors nor can I say we are good buddies, but at least we aren't fighting.

I never imagine who my enemies are and I don't compare myself to others. If I wanted to be jealous, I should be jealous of the soccer stars! They could play soccer while making millions of [British] pounds! (Envy Raymond Lam?) It looks like you are regarding it with that mentality. Raymond likes to sing, but I don't like being a singer. People say Raymond knows how to social, so he got promoted faster. I am not good at socializing. We have different paths. If I had to go out to socialize, I would die! Most of my classmates from the Artistes Training Class have already left, only a few of them are still waiting for opportunities. How can I say I'm not a lucky one? I only had no-name characters for three years and then I got the chance to be in Triumph in the Skies. I will only look at it like the 'half glass is full'. That is, I still have a half full glass, isn't that enough?"

[Kenneth expressed he rather get money than awards. Awards just serve as a source of encouragement. People say if you can be a favorite of the TVB executives, you will get the awards. Kenneth answered with a principle he thought really made sense: 'It is not what your abilities are, it is what your boss thinks of your ability.' He said he has an okay relationship with the executives, but not the best. Raymond is definitely a heavily promoted artist because TVB sees the strengths Raymond has that he doesn't have]

No Fear of People Calling Me Poor

"I have a specific and clear goal, that is to buy a bigger home, so my family can live comfortably. I have never been materialistic or liked to buy brand names. That's why people often tease that I don't have any taste in fashion. I am a practical person. I like to do calculations and usually I like to take the MTR. Although I do have a car, I think taking the MTR is more convenient. I don't mind if you say I'm stingy, but I clearly understand, if I spend money on my family and home, it is not consider a waste. I actually think buying million dollars cars and watches are a waste of money. I don't know where the value is there.

Compared to other celebrities, perhaps everyone thinks I'm strange, but if I'm not in this industry, then I'm pretty normal! I am not afraid of people calling me poor. Chow Yun Fat takes the bus, and you guys (the media) say he loves the citizens, so why is it when other celebrities take the MTR or go eat street food, then they're considered poor? It is based on how you set the standard. Taking the MTR, there are a lot of citizens coming up for autographs and pictures, but I don't think its an inconvenience for me at alll."

The Goods of Not Being The Lead Actor

"Actually whoever I collaborate with, I would learn a lot from them. For example, in At the Threshold of an Era, I played a stock broker. Because it was 'last minute scripts' at the time, I would get the script 30 minutes before shooting starts and I had a whole page of lines to memorize. So I NGed a lot! Everyone had to wait for me to get off work. At the time Gallen Lo was great, every time he saw me NG, he would tell me to take my time and didn't give me an attitude. He was very patient and a true First Brother!

Wayne Lai, Damien Lau and Benz Hui are all seniors I really admire. As long as you have the heart to go do it, they will definitely give you tips. I really admire Wayne because he has wife and kids, but can still be a First Brother. It just proves [actors] don't necessarily have to keep the Idol image, they can still get marry and still be popular. Damien's acting makes me feel like there is always something to learn in acting. Benz Hui's open-mindedness allows you to see the other side of things. He said before, it is beneficial when you're not the lead actor. For example, after every film press conference, the reporters would surround the leads asking about their personal life. He said, "It's so much more relaxing! Just brush your behind and leave!" I agree, it's much more comforting to be able to focus on your acting rather than dealing with gossip news.

Nobody has ever flattered me, even now that I'm more well known, it is the same. Since I came out of the Artistes Training Class, I'm still very chatty with the makeup artists and hairstylists. In the past, people said I'm mute because I can be silent for hours. I used to be afraid that I would offend someone if I said anything."

[Kenneth also mentions back during the financial crisis, he sent out 70 job applications and TVB was the only company that gave him a response. He was offered a salary of HK$4500/month. Kenneth recalls the Artistes Training Class days, it was really fun, even if he only had 3 lines to say, it was still good to see the leads on the set preparing. Sometimes when someone doesn't show up, the PA would tell him to take over and next time he'll get another line to say! It was fun.]

Regrets Yelling At Mother

"When I was young, I didn't know how to cherish things. I would treat my home as if it was a hotel. I only went home to eat and sleep. Until we immigrated to Canada, I was the only man in the family. I began to think if I should be more responsible and look after the family, it wouldn't be right to make my mother mow the lawn right? There is one picture I have in my memory, it is unforgettable. There was one time my mother accidentally put a very expensive T-shirt of mines into the washing machine with other colored clothing and dyed my shirt. At the time, I scolded my mother angrily and then I gave her the silent treatment. Later, I saw my mother on her knees hand-washing that T-shirt by the bathtub. That moment, I started tearing up. That T-shirt was over a thousand dollars, but if one day when my mom isn't here anymore, can I use that thousand dollars to buy my mom back?

My father was an engineer, he often says he's in the science field and really hopes his children could be college graduates, so he really worked hard to raise us. That time, I lived too far and even when I wanted to go out, it would be an hour drive. Also, seeing how difficult it was for my father to make a living, I would not only work part-time, but I stayed home almost every day. I had zero entertainment and concentrated only on studying. My degree was 'bored' out just like that. This is also how my personality of not-liking-to-go-out developed.

I never thought of moving away from my family, even after marriage, I hope to continue living with my parents. Convenient for us to look after each other. Currently, I am starting to have something considered as a career and can allow my parents to rely on me. This is actually quite satisfying. Today, I still like to link arms with my mom when we are out shopping. When I was 12 or 13 years old, I felt ashamed to do it, fearing people would laugh at me for being immature. Actually, it is immature to feel ashamed."

Moses Chan Promotes Series as a Couple without Maggie Cheung

Yesterday Moses Chan, Aimee Chan, Samantha Ko, Kenny Wong, Edwin Siu, KK Cheung and the rest of the cast of TVB new series The Last Steep of Ascent attended the promotional event in Tseung Kwan O. The group played 'ladder of heaven' games, but lead actress Maggie Cheung and Joel Chan were absent. A few days ago Maggie, who has already switched over to TVB's competitor CTI, expressed she would be happy to help TVB promote the new series but producer Lee Tim Shing said: "Nope, it's a policy issue. She signed a contract with another company, so there is no reason why she should be promoting for another TV station."

Joel and Stanley Ho's daughter Florinda Ho are currently dating happily. Tim Gor was asked if he asked Joel to help promote the series? He said: "He's in China. (Apparently he went on vacation with Florinda to Europe?!) At the time, he said he's going to China to do business. Actually, I haven't included him in on the promotions. I'm not even sure if he's still acting. When he gets back to work, then I'll ask him again. (Will this affect the promotions?) Cannot say if its going to affect it or not, but of course its best if everyone is here."

Moses and Aimee appeared at the promotion as a couple. Although they didn't hold hands, they still had a generous attitude. Moses was asked if he felt embarrassed? He said: "Nope, we keep work and personal lives separate." When speaking of Maggie absent from the promotion? Moses said: "I'm not sure. Let TVB make the arrangements. Of course it will be happily with everyone is here, but perhaps there are some policies issues. Well she can still provide her support at home by watching TV. Actually, I hope they'll (CTI) do well because that helps the television industry, but this cannot be achieved easily."

Wayne Lai: 'King Maker' No Longer a Hero, Yu Jing is a Tragic Character

Two time TV King Wayne Lai and Film King Kent Cheng star in TVB series King Maker. In the series, the two go on a serious battle of wits, not only are they satisfying their acting craving, but audience are also watching excitedly. In King Maker, the two are enormously different and are always scheming, which differs from their previous collaboration in The Greatness of a Hero, where one was good, and the other was evil. Wayne describes this series as: "This time time, my role as Yu Jing differs from the Rosy Business series, Chau Gau and Lau Sing. He is not any hero, not that smart or not some brilliant character. Yu Jing is actually more of a foolish and easily influenced tragic character. The deaths of people around him are either directly or indirectly related to him. However, to me, this is a new challenge. As for if the audience likes it or not, it depends on how you see it."

King Maker didn't start out with very high ratings, but approaching to the finale, the ratings should gradually get better. "Perhaps the audience thought Ken Gor and I would have a lot of opposition scenes, but the producer didn't want it to be 'good vs bad' all the way until the end. Adding more turning points will make the series even richer."

TVB is the Real King Maker

In the series, Wayne assists Pierre Ngo's character to take the throne, but in reality, TVB is the true King Maker as they have pushed out many TV Kings/Queens, Pop Kings/Queens and Film Kings/Queens over the years. Wayne said: "Definitely similar. Artists are very passive and only perform in the front, but that does not mean they also know how to do promotions and attend to schedules. Artists are the ones being 'made'. TVB packages all the promotions and broadcast periods, they do everything and have been doing very well."

Recently, TVB has been actively looking for rescuers to help them boost their ratings. So far, they have invited Wong Jing, Deanie Ip and Andy Lau back to counter Ricky Wong's new TV station, CTI. Wayne said: "It is too exaggerated to say rescue. Each year, TVB has both grand productions as well as smaller productions. We all understand that a business isn't really about constantly throwing out the money and spend money on everything. TVB has to have balance. 'Rescue' is just a topic for the media, I have never put it to heart. Whether or not if there will be other free-to-air TV stations, TVB still does everything the same way."

Won't Be Reluctant to Give Up 'Rosy Business' Series

The third installment of Rosy Business is going to start next year. Wayne frankly expressed it is highly inevitable because each year, the attention is focused on whether if there will be sequels, such as Triumph in the Skies II. Wayne said: "To me, it doesn't matter. I have never been reluctant to part from the past and I won't have the attitude of 'I can't lose'. I often say, acting is a process. Constantly repeating is meaningless. Rosy Business is a drama species, each installment is a different story. It is not about the same characters' legends or their after life. I have no pressure when doing this, I don't mind if we have the third installment or not."
