Esther Kwan (Lin Sheung-chun 連雙春) was forced to married into the Kwan family as a concubine in order to pay off her father's gambling debts.However, on the night of her marriage, her husband died. Hearing her screams, Michelle Yim (Wang Yeuk-Lam 汪若嵐), the first wife, rushes in. Seeing her husband's dead body, she assumes Esther is the murderer and tries to stab her, hitting her head on a table in the process. Ever since, Michelle lost her memories of her past and believed that she is still a young girl and that Ester is her mother.


Other than looking after Michelle, Esther slogs her life in the Kwan family and bear the huge responsibility of managing the family's restaurant. Business was poor and there were not much customers in the restarant as it was used to. However, Derek Kok (Leung Kau-mui 梁九妹), the restaurant's chef did not give up and has continuously inventing new recipes to revive the business.

At this time, con-artist Roger Kwok (Ma Wing-ching 馬永禎) and his apprentice Regen Cheung (Tai Kat 戴吉) arrived in town. The two survive using cunning, wits, and lies. They pretended to be people of Yam Fei-Yeung (Lawrence Ng Wai-Kwok), a wealthy and well-known business tycoon and took advantage. The pair also swindle money from Esther's bistro which began the rivalry between the two.


Roger took every available opportunity to take advantage of the Kwan family's kindness but Esther knew better and time and time again punishes him for his schemes. When Lawrence's son, Oscar Leung (Yam Shing-Tin 任勝天), came into town, Roger tricked him into believing that he is indebted to him. The two become good friends and Oscar made Roger his right hand man.



Oscar soon fell for a girl named Vivien Yeo (Wong Kam-fung 王金鳳), and Roger was secretly behind the curtains, humorously coaching both of them. The two start out pretending that they like each other in order to get back at the other person, but then they realized that they may have actually fallen in love with each other.


Meanwhile, Michelle recalled pieces of the past with her dearest senior apprentice who is actually Roger's father. Both looked alike which leads to the mistook by Michelle. Michelle began to foster good relationships with Roger and often shield him from Esther saying he is a good guy.


Her memory was gradually restored, especially by the reappearance of Lawrence who is actually her second apprentice. Roger hope to trigger her memory in order to investigate about his father's past whereby he was executed because of poisoning the Emperor. Hence, he pretended to be executed just like his father and brought back Michelle's memories.

When Michelle woke up, she was confused because to her, Esther is an evil person who killed her husband, while to everyone else who knew her, she is a kind lady who worked hard for her family. Michelle decided to pretend she was still mental until she could uncover Esther's true disposition.


Eventually, Esther, Roger and Derek discovered that they were childhood friends during the time of the Qing Dynasty. The three made a heartfelt reunion and Roger began to change for the better. Slowly, Roger and Esther started to fall in love. Derek secretly harbors feelings for Esther, but decides that he should be happy for her now that she has found her true love.

With Esther gone, Michelle reverted back to normal and took over the role to look after the Kwan's business. Only then did she realised how hard Esther had worked during the days in the restaurant. She often consulted Lawrence regarding recipes issues and was grateful for his help. To continued his investigation about his father's crime, Roger interviewed Michelle about his father in the past. Both believed that his father would not poisoned the emperor.

Consequently, they seeked the view of Lawrence who is Roger's father junior. In contrast, Lawrence gave a letter as evidence stating his father admitting to all the crimes committed. It was checked that it is Roger's father handwriting. However, Roger did not believed the evidence and found out that the quality of the paper diff from the Qing Dynasty and knew that Lawrence was lying and he was the culprit for his father's crime. Another shocking news was that Oscar was actually Roger's younger brother that he had been searching for all these years during the war outbreak.


In the end, the true, nightmarish face of Lawrence was revealed. He tried to threaten Roger not to disclose his relationship with Oscar. Moreover, he managed to convince Derek to his side as it turned out that Roger is the cause of Derek's being Enunch and that he became Roger's scapegoat. Time and again he tried to push the blame for all his crimes to Roger.


Together, with the help of Esther and Derek who finally realised Lawrence evil deeds, Lawrence was then shot in the head and caused him to become handicapped. They came to truly understand the five flavors of life. The sweet, happy times, the sour and sad times, the bitter times, the spicy, exciting times, and the salty, difficult times.


My thoughts:

I know that season of fate was aired some time ago, but still decided to write this review since I had watched it just recently. The characters in this series did not show much hatred to each other e.g between Roger and Lawrence whereby they could still eat together and chat happily. There are not truly firm in their stand. All I can say is that it is an average drama and watch if you have the time to spare. Any comments regarding "The season of fate" is truly appreciated. ^_^

Ekin and Yoyo Mung Ka Wai started dating in 2006 due to a mutual interest in badminton. He spoke about their relationship openly in 2008 for the first time, “I am not married and Yoyo is single. It’s normal for us to be dating. I admire Yoyo’s forthrightness!”

Last year, Ekin said bluntly that he did not want to get married. However, it appears that he may have changed his mind this year. “In the past, I thought I would never get married. But now, I will truly think about it and ask myself, ‘Should I get married?”

Asked whether Ekin preferred to hold a lavish wedding banquet or get married secretly like Charlene Choi and Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Ekin replied, “You can critique Charlene’s work, but you can not place judgment upon her private life and marriage. Even if she lied to the public, that is her right! Even in Andy Lau Tak Wah’s case, where he was married secretly for many years, it is his personal matter.”

How would Ekin handle his own marriage? “Me? Of course I will learn from past occurrences…. Actually, I don’t mind. I will tell everyone openly [when I get married].”

Although Steven did not have acrophobia, he felt his legs lose sensation while suspended in mid-air. “This time, the wire suspension is from a very high point. Although I have filmed many fighting scenes previously, I have never been suspended from wires at such a tall height before. The most difficult part is the need to look cool for the camera while hanging precariously from the wires.”

Bosco revealed that he was filming for the wire scene while sustaining a leg injury. “I am uncertain whether I tore my right thigh muscle from an earlier action scene. Although I can walk, my leg has no strength. The doctor advised me to take three months of rest. But if I rest, then there is no income. I have to support the family, pay for my car and house, as well as my dogs. Recently, Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung and Sheren Tang Shui Man have been busy filming Rosy Business 2. Many scenes will focus on Wayne and Sheren’s one-on-one interaction. Sheren revealed, “In Rosy Business 2, Wayne and my character have an intricate love relationship. In the series, we spend many nights together and there are numerous memorable and moving scenes. If our characters from the first Rosy Business came across as a courageous pair, then this time in Rosy Business 2, there will be more courageous and righteous love demonstrated.” Rosy Business 2 will also delve deeper into romantic arcs, producing another viewership attraction.

Rosy Business was a big winner in 2009; Wayne and Sheren’s characters gave the audience a remarkable, lasting impression. However, the romantic story between Wayne and Sheren’s characters was underdeveloped. Producer Lee took into account the audience’s preferences and have increased focus on Wayne and Sheren’s romance in Rosy Business 2, while featuring the majority of the original cast.

Wayne spoke of his turbulent relationship with Sheren in Rosy Business 2, “Absorbing the experience of our last collaboration, our romance will develop early in the series. Our characters will experience many challenges together. Since the backdrop takes place during World War II, the story will be more three-dimensional. In our mutual scenes thus far, Sheren and I have great chemistry together.”

Sheren added, “In Rosy Business 2, our characters seek each other out each time there are troubling problems to discuss. I do not treat Wayne’s character well. I take advantage of him and also leave him behind. However, each time I call him, he will appear by my side. The script is written quite well. In addition to love , there is also friendship. Through each shared experience, our feelings grow for each other. There are many emotionally moving scenes!”

Both Wayne and Sheren appeared to have visibly lost weight for their roles in Rosy Business 2. Sharing frequent scenes with thin co-stars, Pierre Ngo Ka Nin and Raymond Wong Ho Yin, Wayne felt the need to lose weight. Otherwise, his overweight physique may astound the audience! Sheren also said that Fala Chan and Nancy Wu Ding Yan were both very slender. Aside from the mentally challenging roles, both Wayne and Sheren had to struggle to keep fit. Wayne added, “During the Japanese occupation, many people were very poor. Since my character is not well off, how can I display excess weight? In the first Rosy Business, I was a hungry villager, but I had no time to lose weight for the role. Now, I have already lost seven or eight pounds. For midnight snacks, I usually drink soup or eat fruit and a small amount of cookies.”

Sheren’s character, “Ninth Sister,” is an opportunist with ties to the mafia and drug trade. She will also be a spy and traitor. Sheren’s character’s values conflict directly with Wayne’s police officer character, who is full of integrity and loyalty. Rosy Business 2 is the last collaboration between Producer Lee Tim Sing and Script Editor, Cheung Wah Biu. TVB management, along with the cast and crew have placed utmost importance upon executing this series well.

Wayne said, “We are really looking forward to releasing this series quickly. Since Rosy Business had good results last time, the cast and crew are trying very hard to do their best. Many behind-the-scenes production staff fought to participate in Rosy Business 2, so the morale is very good. The results should turn out well. As a righteous police officer, there are few changes on the surface. However, the character runs into numerous conflicts and turmoil; there are many scenes delving into the character’s psychology. I do not fully know how to portray this role yet, so there is some pressure. This role is more difficult to play than ‘Chai Kau’ from Rosy Business, which was a relatively simple role. Perhaps it truly is more difficult to portray a good person!”

Among her roles to-date, Sheren said that her “Ninth Sister” character in Rosy Business 2 was extremely difficult to portray. “The complexity of the character, along with her turbulent nature, is highly difficult to portray. The pressure is greater than what I experienced while acting in Rosy Business. I have to follow the script closely this time. If I can convey the nuances of ‘Ninth Sister,’ I am already very happy.”

As a police officer, “Sing Gor,” Wayne had to film numerous action and chasing scenes. On the day of the media’s visit on set, Wayne twisted his leg while attempting to ride a bicycle. He cried out in pain and clenched his teeth in the immediate re-take. It took two attempts to successfully complete the scene. After he returns home, he will rub his leg with some herbal tonic, as there will be future action scenes to film. For his “Sing Gor” character, Wayne will wear many long suit jackets. Wayne was teased that his look was quite sharp, but we should call Wayne “handsome man” instead due to his successful weight loss.

PO CHUNG-LING (Steven Ma) was born in Jinan a family of New Year print. He is very bright, his father, PO POON (Yueh Hua), has therefore always hoped that he could one day carry on the family business. LING, mistakenly thinks that POON is working in collusion with some corrupt officials, refuses to listen to what his father says. His good friend, KO JIT (Chan Kam Hung), is a constable and he hates corrupt officials as much as LING does. Rumor has it that a fox spirit is creating troubles in Jinan. LING is almost killed when he is investigating into the matter with JIT. Fortunately, a mysterious girl named LING WU SIU-TSUI (Fala Chen) comes to his rescue in the nick of time. It turns out later that she is the fox spirit, and that she saves LING so as to return a past favor. As they spend more and more time together, TSUI starts to fall for LING.

The PO family has secured a large order of New Year print. To ensure the work can be finished in time they have to hire a large numbers of female workers. LAU SUM-YU (Linda Chung) applies for the job, but her real intention is to look for the man who was unfaithful to her sister, never knowing that she would later be caught in a love triangle with LING and JIT.

After Fly With Me airs its ending, TVB will broadcast The Mysteries of Love <談情說案> starring Raymond Lam Fung, Tavia Yeung Yi, Kenneth Ma Kwok Ming, Bernice Liu Bik Yee, and Lisa S. Raymond will play a genius physicist who assists police officer, Kenneth, in solving difficult cases. Tavia will play the role of a doltish police officer who falls in love with Raymond. Even audiences who do not closely follow Japanese dramas will see the similarities between The Mysteries of Love and Japanese drama, Detective Galileo.

Last year, when The Mysteries of Love began filming, the media had already accused TVB of copying Detective Galileo, which starred Fukuyama Masaharu. Raymond denied the accusation, “The two dramas have two different scripts. The different cast should result in a dissimilar interpretation and distinct outcomes.”

Even before its broadcast, netizens have uploaded photos of The Mysteries of Love and Detective Galileo, pointing out their similarities. We will have to see how the The Mysteries of Love’s ratings fare!

In The Mysteries of Love, Raymond often wears a white lab coat or a tie with a vest [which resembles Fukuyama Masaharu’s style in Detective Galileo]. Tavia’s suits and jackets also resemble Shibasaki Kou’s outfits from Detective Galileo as well. Fortunately, Tavia’s beauty and good acting may compare favorably with the Japanese version.

In the eighth episode of Detective Galileo, the spirit of a deceased girl appeared in front of Fukuyama. The Mysteries of Love also feature a scene where a middle-aged female ghost appears.

In Detective Galileo, Fukuyama often discusses his cases inside his laboratory. In The Mysteries of Love, Raymond also discusses the cases with other cast members inside his lab. The two series’ plots, characters, and style resemble each other closely. To avoid accusations that The Mysteries of Love copied Detective Galileo exactly, additional romantic arcs were added. Producer Lau Ka Ho said, “Although physics is used to solve the cases in The Mysteries of Love, the main focus is still the romantic relationships. Thus it is different than Detective Galileo.”

The romantic relationship between Raymond and Tavia also bear a strong resemblance to the characters in Detective Galileo. Raymond is a logical scientist who does not believe in love, while Tavia places love above all other priorities. As the pair get to know each other more, love sparks ignite.

Airing in 2008, the American television series, The Mentalist, Simon Baker also solved difficult crimes through his excellent observation and analytical skills. It is up to the audience to determine whether TVB copied elements from The Mentalist.

The Mind Reading Detective also stars Bosco Wong Chung Chak, Crystal Tin, Aimee Chan Yan Mei, and Lai Lok Yi.

In Gun Metal Grey, <刑警 2010>, former police officer, Felix Wong Yat Wah, was sentenced to prison for several years for a crime he did not commit. After he was released from prison, Felix sought to execute justice using his own methods. As a result, this caused strife between Felix and his good friend and righteous police officer, Michael Miu Kiu Wai.

Earlier, TVB broadcast American series, Life, which spoke of Damian Lewis was innocently given a life sentence for murder. After proving his innocence and subsequent release, he returned to the police force for vindication. His alternative approach for justice sparked discontent from other police officers. Hopefully, there are no further similarities between Gun Metal Grey and Life!

Gun Metal Grey also stars Jessica Hsuan, Crystal Tin, Nancy Wu Ding Yan, Vincent Wong Ho Shun, Kenny Wong Tak Bun, and Rebecca Chan Sau Chu.

Although Jessica has been busy promoting TVB series, Sisters of Pearl <掌上明珠> lately, she did not neglect Ruan. In the past, Jessica placed all her efforts on her work. She filmed lengthy hours day and night, sacrificing her health and entering the hospital several times. Finally, Jessica became enlightened, “When I was filming A Step into the Past <寻秦记>, I entered the hospital. I told Heaven that I did not want anything except my health. Even if I possessed $100 million (HKD), it would be useless. From that day onwards, I reminded myself not to work non-stop.”

Dating for six months, Ruan already proposed to Jessica. “He has talked about getting married. Since I am a woman, I will not take the initiative in such matters. I believe that love is destined. Each time when I dated in the past, I wanted it [to result in marriage]. I would say that Ruan is the most compatible man I have dated. Regarding early buzz about the TVB Anniversary Awards, Bowie said, “Two weeks prior to the awards ceremony, we should review the clips of all the contenders. Brief summary:
This is a love story between a professor and a policewoman. Their dating experience is enhanced with sense and sensibility through the application of interesting physics theories on the investigation of various crime cases.

KING POK (Raymond Lam) is regarded as the youngest genius in physics and he is appointed as an associate professor in a Hong Kong university. Invited by his good friend LO TIN-HANG (Ma Kwok Ming), Senior Inspector of Police at Regional Crime Unit, POK assists in cracking many mysterious crime cases and he also meets the policewoman CHUI SIU-LAI (Tavia Yeung) during the process. The rational POK evaluates that he has fallen in love with LAI because of a love hormone called "phenylalanine". However, owing to the huge difference in their family background and life value, POK fails to tackle their ever-changing relationship problems with formulas.

On the other hand, the romantic and uninhibited HANG has been maintaining a sex only relationship with the journalist LING MAN-KA (Liu Bernice Jan). HANG doesn't believe in eternity and he is only looking for sensual pleasure in a woman. However, his belief is suddenly shattered when he learns that MAN is going to get married.

My thoughts:
Hurray! Finally most anticipated drama. I am filled with excitement and high hopes for this drama, expectation quite high...tvb don't disappoint me please. All my favourite cast are in this series. Such a long time since Raymond and Bernice act. Oh and I also missed FungYi pairing. In addition, this drama revolves around police investigation which is my most fav plot. Definitely a must watch! (If I phrase it kinda like a tvb advertiser, pls don't blame me, I am too excited for words haha.) Share your excitement by posting comments. ^_^

When it was revealed that Gigi was pregnant with boy-girl twins last month, her relatives and friends were ecstatic. Gigi’s husband was especially joyous after receiving the news.

Displaying his love for Gigi and to prepare for the July birth of the twins, Mr. Ma reserved a VIP room within a private hospital. This way, Gigi and the twins will receive comprehensive care. Since Gigi knew that Mr. Ma loves children, she intends to get pregnant for a second time to have another child. Gigi’s decision moved Mr. Ma.

Last year, when Jessica Hsuan and Kiki Sheung Tin Gnor were filming Sisters of Pearl <掌上明珠>, rumors circulated that they got into disagreements. Although both actresses have denied this, Jessica and Kiki [did not have much to say] in front of other people.

Aside from not getting along with Jessica, Kiki may also have gotten into a cold war with Sisters of Pearl co-star, Michael Tao Dai Yu. Kiki and Michael were classmates in a TVB Acting Class twenty-seven years ago. Allegedly, during the filming of Sisters of Pearl, Kiki and Michael fought over the issue of out-takes. Allegedly, Kiki may even have criticized Michael’s acting skills regressing and that he did not know how to act.

There was obvious tension between Kiki and Michael, as evidenced at a Sisters of Pearl promotional event this week. The pair had zero interaction with each other onstage. Kiki and Michael’s twenty-seven friendship may well be over!

Tavia Yeung Yi is a famous filial daughter. In addition to to setting aside time to spend with her mother on Mother’s Day, Tavia attended famous chef, Chow Chung’s cooking event to learn how to prepare several dishes for her mother.

Under Mr. Chow’s guidance, Tavia’s dishes and skills were applauded. Perhaps she has the potential to become a good wife and mother. Amused, Tavia laughed, “When I find someone, we’ll talk about it! Right now, I’ll like to focus on my career and make more money over the next few years. The earliest [I will get married] is five years later!”

Filming an advertisement for tissue brand, Zenses, Linda Chung Ka Yan demonstrated how to make a carnation from the tissue. Although this Sunday will be Mother’s Day, Linda said that her mother will not come to Hong Kong until June. Hopefully, next year, Linda will be able to celebrate the holiday with her mother in a timely manner!

What gift will Linda give to her mother as a [belated] Mother’s Day gift? Linda’s mother will be happy as long as Linda is happy. The best gift is to offer her reassurance.

In Linda’s early career, Linda’s mother travelled to Hong Kong three times a year in order to look after her. Since Mrs. Chung does not have many friends in Hong Kong, Linda requested her mother to stay in Canada more often in order to spend time with her father.

If Linda has a boyfriend to take care of her, perhaps Mrs. Chung would worry less? Linda laughed that if she has a boyfriend, her mother would worry more, since she would always want to protect her.

What tips did Mrs. Chung share with Linda in selecting a boyfriend? Linda replied that the man must love his parents, such as her own father. Does rumored romantic interest, Raymond Lam Fung, resemble Mr. Chung? Linda said, “No.” She praised her father for being calm and able to protect the people around him. The entertaining value of a television series is usually attributed to the villain’s role. In recent years, TVB created several memorable villainess roles, such as Tavia Yeung Yi’s character in Beyond the Realm of Conscience <宮心計> and Michelle Yim Mai Shuet in Moonlight Resonance <溏心風暴之家好月圓>.

Replacing Suspects in Love’s <搜下留情> time slot will be Sisters of Pearl <掌上明珠> For the first time in her 17-year acting career, Jessica Hsuan will be portraying a villainess. Sisters of Pearl also feature Bowie Lam, Kiki Sheung Tin Gnor, Michael Tao Dai Yu, Chan Mei Si, and Joyce Tang Lai Ming. Set in the 1960s, the story revolves around the three Chu sisters (played by Kiki, Jessica, and Mei Si) and their family pearl business. Due to the frequent bickering among the sisters over the family fortune, there will be many scenes with the female characters plotting against each other.

No Righteous Character in Sisters of Pearl

Jessica’s character will bear evil and greedy intentions, as she schemes to take over complete control of the Chu family’s pearl business. Jessica will have many scenes opposite Bowie and Michael as well.

Perhaps the most extreme villain will be Bowie, who will play Kiki’s husband. Initially, Bowie was loyal to the Chu family. However, after his father’s death due to unjust circumstances, his personality took a drastic turn and he became a sly schemer.
